The composer is the medium, not the originator. He has the ear, the mind and the means to write down the dictates of the Muse. I know there is a split opinion of this in the world of the composers. Some claim to be the creators of their own work while others, myself included, feel that we are committed to passing the Muse’s impulses to the people. This Axiom dictates our behavior both as composers and interpreters.

One might ask who will play the role of the “Muse”. It’s very easy: All that we define as “cultural heritage” is the Muse; the music which we have been in contact with from the time in the womb until today. An experience that continues to act on us forever. The Muse is our “musical genes” through which we understand the music and with which we write new music.
